Background:

EQT has been the sponsor of this program since its inception in 1995. ASPIRE is governed by a committee, and made up of students and EQT employees who volunteer their time because they believe in community involvement. Unique to the Pittsburgh, ASPIRE has teamed up with Junior Achievement.

The Mentorship Program:

Beginning each summer, and continuing for a two-year period, selected students will be eligible for the mentorship program. Mentors will:

  • Develop a professional relationship with the student which provides encouragement, guidance, direction and support;
  • Assist the student with making college choices;
  • Assist the student in setting academic and career goals.

Throughout the year, the students will participate in:

  • Educational workshops
  • Social activities
  • Recreational events
  • Community activities

The Scholarship Program:

  • Awards four $2,500 scholarships to seniors who are currently in the program;
  • Scholarships are renewable for up to four years and can total $10,000 each;
  • Awards are based on the essay, participation, mentor partnership and the overall application

Student requirements:

Students admitted into the ASPIRE program are:

  • College/University-bound looking to pursue a four year degree
  • Individuals with grade point averages of 2.75 or higher
  • Sophomores, during the application process
  • Students with identifiable developmental areas
  • Willing to commit to a mentoring relationship
  • Able to access the internet for the purposes of enrollment and RSVPing for events.

Applying for the program:

Student selection:

  • Screenings and possibly an interview
  • Acceptance into the program in March
  • Mentor matching
